A Roof Overcoming Trauma: Community, Charity, and Enviroshake

This project was an absolute delight for us to be a part of. We had the opportunity to work on a remarkably upscale, luxurious residence previously owned by a fellow local entrepreneur. In an incredibly generous act, this individual gifted the property to a charitable organization dedicated to providing shelter for those recovering from traumatic experiences. The home was topped with a cedar shake roof that had seen better days, necessitating a replacement.

The choice of roofing material was particularly fascinating – the homeowner opted for Enviroshake, an innovative product crafted from recycled plastics. Not only does this material mimic the aesthetic appeal of traditional slate, but it also offers significant advantages. It eliminates the need for structural reinforcement required by actual slate, boasts hail resistance, and comes with a reassuring 50-year warranty.

This project was distinctive because it was entirely supported by private funding, highlighting the need for volunteer involvement, which, in my opinion, was the highlight of the entire undertaking. Witnessing the community rally together to support this cause was profoundly moving. The manufacturer of the Enviroshake played a pivotal role by offering the product at a discounted rate. Additionally, local congregations mobilized volunteer teams to assist in organizing the new roofing material and clearing away the remnants of the old roof. Our team contributed by providing our labor to the effort.

It was an immensely rewarding experience to be involved in a project that not only transformed a high-end property but also fortified the bonds within our community. The collaboration, the generosity of all parties involved, and the chance to work with such an environmentally friendly and technologically advanced product like Enviroshake made this project unforgettable.
